History of Brunei Postal Service

Explore our timeline spanning over a century within the postal industry.

1895

First Post Office was established by the Borneo Company Limited.

1906

Government Post Office was established by the British Resident following the Treaty if Friendship.

1984

The formation of Postal Service Department and place under Ministry of Communications immediately after post-independence.

1985

Brunei officially joined the Universal Postal Union on 15 January 1985.

2006

Celebration of the 100th Anniversary.

2023

The Postal Services Act (Chapter 271) came into effect on 14 March 2023, appointing AITI as the regulator for Postal Services in Brunei.

2026

The transition of Brunei Postal Service Department into the government linked company PosBru Sdn Bhd officially go-live on 1 January 2026.
